Donkeys Looking For Their Forever Homes
All of our donkeys that were up for adoption have found their forever homes! Check back because it doesn't take long for us to have more donkeys available.
Adoption Program
At Holyland Donkey Haven, we take the adoption of a donkey very seriously. We have an adoption process to ensure that each donkey is adopted by a loving and responsible person.
The first step; getting background information from the potential adopter... why they want a donkey, their intended use for the donkey, what experience they have with donkeys or horses, and if they have a veterinarian and farrier available. We will conduct a basic background check on the potential adopter with their full consent.
The second step; we will ask for and contact references (friends and employers). We need a general picture of the person that is completing the adoption process. We follow up with the veterinarian and farrier that the adopter may have an established relationship with, or we can recommend reputable caregivers.
The third step; After gathering the basic information, we prefer to visit the new home for the donkey. We verify that the property is a suitable environment for the donkey and that all of the donkey’s needs will be met. If we feel changes are needed, we will request that certain changes be done before we will allow an adoption to be finalized.
The final step in the adoption process states a contract will need to be signed and an adoption fee (typically $650) must be paid. We will also provide the adopter with the knowledge and training needed to care for their donkey.
If at any time we feel that the donkey is not being cared for properly, in accordance with this signed contract, the donkey will be returned to Holyland Donkey Haven immediately. If for some reason the adoptive family is no longer able to care for their donkey, they may also return them to Holyland.
We love our donkeys and know that only the very kindest of people choose to adopt from us! Our policies are precautionary and we feel confident that if you choose to adopt a donkey from us, you have what it takes!
